Somewhere in the early part of this year i granted Edward Balami of TV3 an interview on why Ghana’s Electoral Commission, should adopt social media in the run up to the 2016 General elections. This was even before the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. John Kudalor, flirted with the idea of shutting down social media during election day.
In my opinion, social media should not be shut down during election day but rather the Electoral Commission of Ghana, can take a proactive approach by fusing social media into its overall communication strategy; so as to ensure that all an sundry can access updates and information from a much more credible source.
Additionally, to ensure a sanitized social media space, the leaders of the political party would also need to send a message to their following and party communicators to be decorous about the information they churn out and disseminate.
Check out the interview in the attached video.
